At dinner, we were talking a bit about where in the U.S. a "foreign visitor" might want to be sure to see if they manage a trip to this country. High on the list were:
--New York City (which admittedly several people won't ever go to again).
--The Grand Canyon, practically a universal choice.
--Yellowstone National Park (but make reservations well ahead!)
--San Francisco, much more manageable than NYC
--Victoria, British Columbia
One good reminder is that distances here are huge! Another is that the weather/climate is very different in the various sections. So much depends on when you are going to be here.
We are in Florida right now, but nobody said a visitor simply must see Miami. I put in a plug for Shark Valley in the Everglades National Park, though--a personal favorite. Love those gators!
Nobody but my wife and I mentioned New Mexico, but we really like it there a lot, too.
Thanks for that, DD. My wife and I are planning a trip to the U.S. and Canada in a year or two.

Snowy, I am aware of your travel plans, which is why I brought the subject of destinations up for discussion at dinner. I have my own views, but was interested in hearing those of some others. I'm sure we will talk more about this before your trip is actualized!

We've had to take a raincheck on this year, DD, but still plan to go.

We were in New Mexico one year the last week of March and we were very impressed. Hope I can go back some time.

When the manservant was trying to talk me into coming to America with him he brought me on a trip - Washington DC and New York on the east coast; flew me over to the west coast and drove through the glorious redwoods down to San Francisco and then down to LA and finished off his pitch in Hawaii !

Those seem like good choices. For sure, Washington DC--so much to see there.

It was enough to get me here. Since then I've done the entire west coast from Seattle down to the Mexican border (and over it); driven over the Sierras from SF to Reno in a blizzard (!!), driven from Vegas to the Grand Canyon and then over to San Diego. On this coast I've done from DC to Vermont and south to NC (and flown to Orlando). And .... .. there is still so much to see! :-)

I am glad you have enjoyed your travels. The section of the country that I need to be in more is the far west. Not that I haven't---but I need to go back. Las Vegas I never have been to, or San Diego either.
