I refuse to give up hope!

Sadly my health insurance will remain expensive and not super via my insurance company, but I'm pleased more people will have some sort of access to health care.

Ask me in a few years when I have to buy in insurance with two pre-existing conditions.  Sure they don't have to deny me, doesn't mean they won't charge me up the you know what for it.

DA, it will be interesting and important to see how this works out.  Certainly goals have been set.  Let's see if private insurers are willing to help attain them.

That's a great thing about Medicare:  no limitations based on prior health.  You turn 65, and you qualify.

Good luck to you on this.

Katiebell, that is pretty bad when someone who is working in health care as you do doesn't have very good health insurance!  Actually, I heard my doctor complain about hers once, too.  Sad situations!

I think this is one of those long term things. And also only a first step. In theory, my health care situation should remain as it is, but I have hope that the impact on society will be good. I'm also thinking that, like with Medicare and Social Security, a decade from now people will be up in arms if anyone talked about repealing-- they'll have 22 year old kids without insurance that they want to keep covering, etc. Paraphrasing David Frum (now there's someone I never thought I'd quote) on npr earlier in the week-- Congress has changed hands a whole lotta times since those two things passed in 1965 and no real concerted effort has even been attempted to repeal either one. And if someone tried to do so now even the teabaggers would be freaking out. I suspect that things will fall out the same way with the health care reform act. And with it being a first step, once all the hoo-ha has simmered down, I'm hopeful that it can be made better. Not that I'm expecting to see single payer in my lifetime (sigh).

On the offshore drilling thing, however, I'm feeling downright grumpy.
