My wife is out of town for a couple days. I missed her almost immediately, and apparently she is missing me too. She is in Virginia, with relatives.
Each of us has lost our (original) spouse, not briefly but permanently. I dread the thought of either of us being truly left without the other.
But, with her gone, I am watching The Hurt Locker, which is too violent to have on when she is here. Didn't it win several academy awards? Directed by a woman (Kathryn Bigelow)--who once was the wife of the director of Avatar, which certainly was a fine movie in its own right. I have it on blu-ray, but didn't see it in 3-D. Spectacular, a beautiful fantasy world.
Hurt Locker, though, is in an entirely different league. I feel like it is real, not like it is a "movie." Of course, I've never been at war, but it seems real to me, as best as I can judge. How about the director lady? Has she ever been at war? I wouldn't think so.
How do you make this stuff up?
When my son was here yesterday, we saw Iron Man 2 together. I liked it quite well. But it was definitely a "movie" and not "real."
I ought to be going to bed soon, but I want to see the end.
Speaking of movies, both of the Blockbuster stores near us have closed now. I guess that system for distributing video is in its final months. As has happened with music, as is happening with software, and probably is happening with books and magazines. Books look darn good on my iPad. And movies do too, if you want to watch a show on something other than a great big screen.
Pretty soon everything will be downloaded over the internet. Or, practically everything. I guess some people even find their wife that way. My son did, actually, and she is very nice. Probably when he is on his own, as happens rarely, he misses her, too.
Sorry to hear you are having to survive on your own again. It is sweet that you are missing each other. I've heard that all the movies you mentioned were very good, although I haven't seen any of them. I did go to see "Alice in Wonderland" with my granddaughers and quite enjoyed it. I did buy the Avatar soundtrack and enjoy listening to it.
Hope they get high speed internet service available everywhere before we have to rely on the internet for everything. I don't even try to watch video clips. It takes too long.

The weather here yesterday (and supposedly again today) was glorious so your wife has come visiting at a nice time - another month or so and we will have that awful humidity. We love Netflix. I have a Kindle which I love but I am still sorry to see lovely little independent book stores closing.

Like Emjay, we use Netflix to see movies. It provides excellent service. I prefer to watch movies on my 42" tv than on my 13" laptop screen.
On another note, I follow your tumblr and found the GIngrich/Kagan entry predictable. Here we go again!

If I remember correctly The Hurt Locker was written by a reporter who spent time embedded hence the real feeling you sensed. I thought it was okay'ish but didn't get the hype surrounding it.
Haven't seen Iron Man 2 yet, but it's another Brian worked on so yay! It should feel fake though, comic book movies tend to ;)
It does seem like movie stories are closing left and right. My mom just scored some cheap movies that way herself as a store just closed near her too. We haven't been to a rental store in... I forget how long and even then it wasn't to rent but to look at what they had for sale cheap. We only buy dvds, never rent.

My wife is back, I picked her up at the airport at 6 pm. The traffic was predictably difficult, but it is nice to have her home again. But it is also nice that she had a very pleasant visit with her son's family in Virginia (one of two who live there).
Now we only have a couple days, and then we will be off again, probably for about a week, with the main purpose being participating in my son's wedding in the Detroit area. It is an outdoor ceremony; we are hoping so much for good weather!
I need to plan a "toast," but don't feel at all certain about what I want to say.
