This is one of the routes we hope to follow for a while on this trip. Some of the eastern part, not the western section. The latter may have to wait until after Labor Day.
My understanding is that all of the even-numbered highways with a zero in them are, or originally were, routed coast to coast. 20, 30, 40, 50, etc.
I'm less sure about north-south routes, but U.S. 41 goes all the way down from Lake Superior to Miami; we have driven it. U.S. 1 covers the entire Atlantic seaboard, starting in Key West. We have driven a fair amount (but not all) of that, too.
